VIRGIN, Washington County — A group of 22 hikers in Washington County are safe after becoming lost in the area Friday evening.

The group was part of a girls' camp embarking on an evening hike near Zion Tiny Oasis vacation rentals, 1901 Kolob Terrace Road in Virgin. After losing their way, the larger group of 22 separated into two groups before search and rescue became involved, sheriff's deputies said.

Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Jacob Paul said they received the call around 9:30 p.m. Search and rescue responders utilized a drone to find the lost hikers and then guide the rescuers to the separate groups.

Search and rescue personnel managed to guide the two groups back together, then led them to incident command for medical evaluation.
