SALT LAKE CITY — An apparent workplace shooting late Monday night left one man in critical condition.

Salt Lake police were called to 601 S. Iron Rose Place on a report of a shooting at about 11:30 p.m. Officers arrived to find a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The man, whose name was not released, was "stable" and was taken to a hospital, where he was later downgraded to critical condition, according to a statement from police.

"He is expected to survive, but he sustained serious bodily injuries," police spokesman Brent Weisberg said.

A 66-year-old was taken into custody by police.

"Preliminary information indicates that this was a workplace-related shooting. The suspect and victim are likely known to each other, but the exact nature of their relationship remains unclear. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation," Weisberg said.

The man was taken to a hospital to be checked for a pre-existing medical condition, according to police. He will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. His name was not immediately released.

The investigation remained ongoing Tuesday, Weisberg said.
