SPRINGVILLE — What started as a traffic stop in Springville for an improper turn became an arrest after police say they found 33 grams of heroin in man's vehicle Thursday night.

Eric Ronald Prestwich, 48, was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of driving under the influence, possession with intent to distribute, prohibited dangerous weapon conduct and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, court documents state.

About 11 p.m., Prestwich made an improper left turn close to 1700 W. 1450 North, according to a police booking affidavit. A Utah County sheriff's deputy stopped him.

The deputy noted Prestwich's eyes were "red and bloodshot, glossy, and his pupils were constricted," the affidavit states. Prestwich kept trying to search for something underneath his seat and was told to stop.

The deputy asked Prestwich to step out of the vehicle, and a field sobriety test was performed. He failed and was arrested, police said.

While police were searching Prestwich, he said he had "a bunch of dope" in his car. The deputy found 33 grams, or the equivalent of 330 individual sale amounts of heroin, according to the affidavit.
