SALT LAKE CITY — A family is reeling from shock and heartbreak after their loved one, 67-year-old Scott Mair, was killed in a hit-and-run crash late Sunday night.

The collision occurred just before 11 p.m. at the intersection of 400 East and 2100 South while Mair was riding his motorcycle. The driver who struck him fled the scene, leaving Mair's family desperate for answers.

"He was such a happy guy. He was always happy," said his daughter, Rachelle MacArthur. She and Mair's grandson, Thaddeus Mair, are struggling to comprehend the loss.

MacArthur remembers her father as someone who loved life and would give a stranger the shirt off his back.

Salt Lake City police are now asking for the community's help.

"If anybody saw anything that can help us to identify the individual involved, please come forward. We are asking for your help," said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Miles Southworth.

Investigators believe the person they are looking for was driving a light-colored sedan, but solid leads remain elusive. Meanwhile, Thaddeus Mair cannot help but wonder whether his grandfather could have survived had the driver stopped.

"Maybe if he would have stopped and helped and gotten the paramedics there faster, he might still be standing with us, or in the hospital. Instead, he's lying in a morgue," Thaddeus Mair lamented.

The family's plea to the driver is simple.

"If anyone has the decency, a decent ounce in their body, come forward. Please. Please let us know," MacArthur said.

As authorities continue their search for answers, Scott Mair's family clings to memories of a man whose kindness and joy left a lasting mark.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Salt Lake City Police Department.
