MIDVALE — Unified police officers in Midvale shot and killed a man who may have been armed with a knife early Friday.
The man was later identified as 32-year-old Dustin Pearson of West Jordan.
Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery about 2:20 a.m. near 165 W. 7200 South. A large parking lot to a Sportsman's Warehouse, which was closed at the time, is at that address.
As officers arrived, they encountered Pearson.
"During the incident, an altercation occurred involving an individual which resulted in one fatality. A knife was recovered at the scene," according to a statement from police.
An officer-involved critical incident protocol was invoked, which typically happens when there is a fatal police shooting. The incident will be investigated by West Valley police.
