GRANTSVILLE — Two people have died following an incident Friday afternoon at Grantsville Reservoir.

Tooele County Sheriff Paul Wimmer said his agency received a report of a boat sinking at the reservoir, south of Grantsville, just after 1:30 p.m. The 911 caller said multiple people in a boat had been calling for help and were now in the water, struggling to swim.

Witnesses told emergency responders that kayakers had pulled one man from the water.

"The individual was unresponsive, and officers, along with medical personnel, immediately initiated lifesaving efforts but were unsuccessful," a statement from the sheriff's office says.

He was identified Saturday as Paul Casity, 60, of West Jordan.

The second person was missing Friday evening, but the Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team recovered the man's body Saturday. He was identified as Sam Ki, 29, of West Jordan.

Rescuers also recovered a canoe that the two men had been using. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
