SALT LAKE CITY — A road-rage confrontation between two drivers in the economy lot at the Salt Lake City International Airport resulted in one man "keying" the other driver's vehicle and causing heavy damage, according to police.

The incident happened on Jan. 31. Kevin Q. Nguyen, 26, ran a stop sign in the airport's economy lot, causing another driver to hit his brakes to avoid a collision, according to a police booking affidavit.

The other driver followed Nguyen until he parked and the two drivers then got into a verbal fight, the affidavit states.

After the argument was over and the two men separated, Nguyen later returned to the other driver's vehicle and "used a hard object, possibly a key, and was seen on surveillance footage scraping panels of the vehicle on all sides. The damage was extensive and the victim got a quote from an auto body shop for the repairs priced at $12,786," according to the affidavit.

Police confirmed the victim's story by reviewing surveillance video from the parking lot.

Investigators say Nguyen is from Portland and is "running a Turo vehicle-rental business for the Utah ski season." He was "unable/unwilling" to provide an address of where he is staying in Utah, the affidavit states. Officers located him Wednesday and booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of causing property damage, a potential charge that comes with a road rage penalty enhancement.
