SANDY — A 14-year-old boy has been accidentally shot in Sandy, dispatchers confirmed.

The shooting took place at about 4:15 p.m. Friday near 90 W. Palmer Way in Sandy, according to dispatchers.

The shooting appeared to be accidental and self-inflicted, Sandy police said on Twitter. The boy had non-life-threatening injuries to his leg after the shooting, Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said.

The teen had some friends over and the group was playing with the gun, according to Nielsen. Police were not sure how the boy got the gun or whose it was, he said.

He was transported to a hospital with injuries to his leg that were not considered to be life-threatening, Nielsen said.

No other details were immediately available. This story will be updated as more information is released.
