BALLARD, Uintah County — A 2-year-old girl died Sunday after she was accidentally shot by a sibling moving a gun in their home in Ballard, Uintah County.
The gun had been brought inside the home after a hunting trip the day before and was leaning against a wall, according to a Facebook post by the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. The children in the home were cleaning up their toys when one of the older siblings went to move the gun.
The gun discharged and fatally wounded the 2-year-old, the sheriff's office said. The girl was transported to the hospital by her parents but was pronounced dead soon after.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
"Our thoughts and prayers will be with the family of the victim as they go through this tragedy," the sheriff's office said.
