BEAR RIVER CITY, Box Elder County — A 67-year-old man was found dead in a weekend house fire.
Two people were driving by and spotted the burning house about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, said Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Dale Ward. The two feared someone was inside, he said. They were eventually able to get the locked front door open, but heavy smoke and flames prevented them from entering.
Later, when Box Elder fire crews were able to enter the structure, they found the body of Gene Earl Bunderson in a bedroom, Ward said. Bunderson lived in the house by himself.
Ward said he was told that the fire was determined to have started in the bedroom, but he declined to say definitively if that was indeed the point of origin until the final written report is completed.
The fire is believed to be accidental, but Ward did not want to say how that determination was made.
