Hot temperatures and dry conditions are helping launch an active wildfire season in northern Utah. Firefighters are now battling a wildfire burning in Tooele County.

There have been about a half-dozen fires in the last week or so near the Wasatch Front, some human-caused, but lightning sparked the Little Bald Mountain fire yesterday. It's burning in the Stansbury Mountains, just outside of Grantsville.

Kathy Jo Pollock of the Interagency Fire Center says fire season is definitely here. "In a lot of areas, any kind of ignition can start something -- a match being thrown out a window, a cigarette -- so people have to be extremely careful," she said.

Forest managers have closed campgrounds and trailheads in the canyon out of concern for public safety and to allow easier access for the firefighters. There are several homes in the area, but none are threatened at this time.

So far, the fire has burned about 600 acres.
