PINEVIEW RESERVOIR — The body of a man reported missing by his family was found in Pineview Reservoir late Friday night, police said.
Seven Samuel Hughes, 29, of Clearfield, was reported missing on Friday morning by his family after walking off from their location at the Anderson Cove campground on Highway 39 in Pineview Thursday night, according to Weber County Sheriff's Office. Some clothing belonging to Hughes was found on a dock Friday afternoon, officials said.
Teams searched throughout Friday without success, police said. Around 10 p.m. Friday, deputies scouring the area using newly acquired sonar equipment located a possible body, and Weber County search and rescue divers were called back in. Just before midnight, the body was recovered from about 20 feet of water and confirmed as Hughes, according to police.
Hughes is believed to have been the victim of a drowning, but the investigation remains ongoing. Hughes reportedly suffered from some mental health issues, and it wasn't uncommon for him to leave his family unannounced.
Hughes' body is being sent to a medical examiner for autopsy as part of the investigation, police said. More information will be released as it becomes available.
