SOUTH JORDAN — A woman who police say was driving with a blood-alcohol level about 3 ½ times over the legal limit was arrested after crashing her car into a tree while four unrestrained children were in the back.

On Sunday, Robin Lance, 36, of South Jordan, was delivering newspapers in her car about 8 a.m. near 4300 W. Lennox Drive (9433 South) when she "passed out while driving" and "drifted off of the road to the left striking several trees. The vehicle continued east and stopped against a phone junction box," according to South Jordan police.

Four children, ages 4, 5, 9 and 11, who were in the car unrestrained, suffered minor injuries.

When police arrived, Lance told them she had been up since 1 a.m. delivering newspapers. Lance acted slow and lethargic when talking to officers, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

Lance told the officers she did not drink, the report states.

But when officers took her to the South Jordan Police Station for a breath test, she registered a 0.306, the report states. Drivers are not allowed to have a blood-alcohol content above 0.08 per Utah law.

Lance was arrested for investigation of four counts of DUI. As of Thursday no criminal charges have been filed against her. The children were picked up by other family members.
