WELLINGTON, Carbon County — Two men died Thursday in a head-on crash near Wellington, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. when the driver of a Nissan sedan traveling west on U.S. 6 crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Chevrolet HHR, troopers said.

Troopers identified the driver of the Nissan as Calvin J. Sutherland, 32, of Draper. Michael J. Jensen, 51, of Wellington, was driving the Chevy, investigators said. Both men died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Prior to the crash, the driver of a semitrailer had called emergency dispatchers to report Sutherland for erratic driving on I-70, troopers said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The highway was closed for about an hour.
