SALT LAKE CITY — The forest service has a simple request: stop vandalizing the forests in Utah.
Officials say with the warm weather, they've seen an increase in graffiti along trails, damage to forest service signs and buildings, and leaving loads of garbage behind from target shooting.
And that’s not all.
“People are taking large items such as pianos and snowmobiles and leaving them out in the forest for someone else to pick up,” said Kathy Jo Pollock of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. “We do have to remove the pianos. We have to take trucks up, so it does take time and money."
Graffiti is a federal crime.
Officials say if a person finds graffiti, don’t try and clean it up. A person could get hurt getting to it or do more damage by cleaning it incorrectly.
Instead, give the local forest rangers or police a call.
