ATLANTA (AP) — Education officials in Georgia say the state has received $9.5 million to help schools address mental health.
The Georgia Department of Education says it's launching a new initiative called Georgia Project AWARE, which stands for Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education.
The agency says project will address the mental health needs of children, youth, families, caregivers and communities, and support the implementation of mental health training at the state and local levels.
The grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will be spread over five years. Georgia State University plans to partner with the department to provide technical assistance, training and evaluation.
The grant will support the establishment of Youth Mental Health First Aid training in school districts statewide.
