WEST JORDAN -- A 2-year-old died as a result of an accident on the Old Bingham Highway Monday afternoon.

A call was received at 4:37 p.m. Monday about an accident at the intersection of U-111 and Old Bingham Highway, said West Jordan police officer Ian Adams. A cement truck from Metro Cement was traveling north on U-111 and collided with a passenger car at the intersection.

A mother and two kids were trapped in the vehicle after colliding with a cement truck at about 7000 W. 10200 South. A helicopter transported the mother and one of the children to Primary Children's Hospital after they were freed. The other was taken to Primary Children's by ambulance.

The condition of the older child is stable, and the condition of the mother is not yet known. The driver of the cement truck was not injured in the accident.

The cause of the accident at the two-way stop is not yet known, but the cement truck hit the car, pushing it into an open field.

"It can be a dangerous intersection, obviously from what you have seen today," said Officer Ian Adams. "It was a pretty tragic accident."
