GRANTSVILLE — A semitruck driver died while driving on I-80 in Tooele County on Saturday afternoon after he suffered a medical issue, officials said.

The man was heading west on the interstate near mile marker 72, about 20 miles west of Grantsville, according to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jared Cornia.

The incident took place at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday, according to Utah Department of Transportation.

The man had some sort of medical issue that caused him to veer across the median into eastbound lanes, Cornia said. The man died at the scene.

Authorities did not release more information about the medical issue, but believe the man died because of its complications rather than in the vehicle crash, according to Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Todd Royce.

The man's identity will not be released because of privacy issues surrounding HIPAA laws, Royce said.
