HCR15, sponsored by Rep. Cheryl Acton, R-West Jordan, recognizes that the district has the state's largest fleet of CNG school buses, with 75 of 260 buses fueled by natural gas and another 36 on order.
Acton said the recognition is deserved by the district and may help "promote clean air policies to other fleet managers in the state." She said the district has used grants and other means to keep the costs of the CNG buses and fuel down.
Jordan School Board President Janice Voorhies told the committee that children in the fast-growing district matter, not just when they're in the classroom but also their health and quality of life.
"We are very proud of the good work our transportation people do to keep those buses rolling and to make them a continued effort," Voorhies said.
Rep. John Westwood, R-Cedar City, joined in the praise for the district.
"I wish more school districts would follow suit here," he said. "It would greatly improve our air quality."
