CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's Interior Ministry says security forces have killed four suspects who were behind the killing of five policemen earlier this month in an attack near Cairo.

Wednesday's statement by the ministry says the suspects were killed in an exchange of fire as security personnel targeted one of their hideouts on the outskirts of Cairo.

The ministry added that two other suspects were arrested in another hideout in Giza, Cairo's twin city.

The attack on the policemen took place on July 14 when gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire on a security vehicle patrolling a Giza village, next to some of Egypt's oldest pyramids.

Insurgents have carried out scores of suicide bombings and attacks in Egypt since the ouster of former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, whose one-year rule proved divisive.
