SPRINGVILLE — A Springville High School student has been arrested on suspicion of making a terroristic threat after police say he sent a social media post that suggested a threat of violence at the school.

The student sent the post on Snapchat at about 5 a.m. Thursday, according to an emailed statement from Springville Police Lt. Warren Foster.

Detectives discovered the post and found the student at Springville High School, Foster said. During an interview with police, the student told police that the post was a joke and he had no intention of going through with the threat.

After the interview and an investigation, the student was booked into Slate Canyon Detention Center for investigation of making a terroristic threat and other charges, Foster said.

“The Springville Police Department takes these ‘jokes’ very seriously and tries to act on them quickly to protect the students and staff of our schools and the citizens of our community,” Warren said in the statement.

The student’s name was not released.
