SALT LAKE CITY — If you didn't get a shot at buying tickets to "Hamilton," well, better luck next time.

Tickets for the Tony Award-winning musical went on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, but they were gone by about 2 p.m., according to a statement from MagicSpace Entertainment, which is bringing the show to Utah as part of the Broadway at the Eccles series.

Tonya Hastings and her son, Riley, were second and third in line outside the Eccles Theater at 9 p.m. Thursday night. Thirteen hours later, when the ticket windows opened, they were able to get tickets.

“We're sitting in the first tier about five rows back," Hasting said.

Tickets were available online as well. People signed on and were placed in a virtual waiting room, with wait times to purchase lasting for several hours in some cases.

Ellie Brownstein got online and stood in line as well, arriving at the theater at 7:45 a.m. so she wouldn't miss out.

“Well, I'm only going to get one set. But right now it says I have more than an hour (wait)," Brownstein said, referring to her computer screen.

"But I think I have less of an hour this way," she said, referring to the line. "I figured if I got in quick, great, but I didn't want to take that chance."

MagicSpace Entertainment noted in its statement that additional seats may be made available for sale closer to the show's April 11 through May 6 run. It also noted there will be ticket drawings for the show, but details weren't announced.

The musical, with music, lyrics and book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, first hit Broadway Aug. 6, 2015, and won 11 Tony Awards. The musical has been an international phenomenon, with tickets in high demand in New York City and every city it has visited since.
