OGDEN — One woman is dead and a girl has been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after a vehicle struck them Friday night.

Around 9 p.m., police arrived at 164 N. Harrisville Road where the 48-year-old woman and her 8-year-old granddaughter were crossing the street when a 68-year-old man driving an SUV did not notice the two and hit them, according to Sgt. Cameron Stiver.

Witnesses told police that the woman and the girl appeared to stop in the road to pick up one of their sandals when the vehicle struck them.

Both the woman and the girl were taken to a local hospital where the woman was pronounced dead.

Police did not issue any citations and the crash is still under investigation. The driver is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
