WASHINGTON CITY — Police located the responsible party of a monkey that was taken into custody Wednesday.
A small monkey was reported to be on the loose in the Coral Canyon area Wednesday evening, according to the Washington City Police Department. Officers teamed up with a local veterinarian to catch the monkey.
While the monkey was quarantined at the Washington City animal shelter, police asked for help from the public to identify the monkey's owner. Officers said they canvassed the homes in the area but were unable to find them.
The responsible party for the monkey was found Friday, police said. Ed Kantor of the Washington City Police Department said the investigation is still ongoing, but no charges have been filed at this time.
It is against state regulation to collect, import or possess a monkey in Utah.
"Washington City animal welfare officers are currently taking steps to have the animal placed with an out of state animal sanctuary," Kantor said in a statement.
