SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County wants the public's help in planning the future of county parks and recreation facilities.

The county's parks and recreation division, which oversees 105 parks and 21 recreation centers, is in the process of developing a master plan to guide the division's growth over the next decade.

The public is invited to six meetings in May to solicit input regarding the future use of parks, recreation areas, open space, golf courses, swimming pools and trails overseen by the county. Additional public meetings will be held in the late summer and fall.

“Salt Lake County’s rapid growth and development makes it critical that we seize opportunities for creating parks and preserving open space,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.

“Please help us by lending your time and your voice so that we develop the best proposal we can for communities throughout the county. The master plan will guide how we prioritize and spend your tax dollars and enhance your neighborhood,” McAdams said.

Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation manages 4,828 acres of open space and 23 miles of trails. The division employs 280 full-time and about 3,000 seasonal staff who also operate 18 swimming pools, six golf courses, three ice centers and Wheeler Historic Farm.

The community meetings will run from 6:30-8 p.m.
