PRICE — Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a car fire Monday that did significant damage to a tire shop.

Firefighters were called about 6:40 p.m. to Grako's American Car Care Center, 280 E. Main, according to Price Fire Chief Paul Bedont. They quickly determined a Nissan Maxima inside the repair shop was burning, and that the car was already spilling gasoline on the shop's floor.

"We took care to avoid introducing oxygen into the fire," Bedont said. "If you control the air, you control the fire."

Because gasoline was fueling the fire, crews used foam to extinguish it.

The tire shop suffered about $100,000 damage, Bedont said. The car was destroyed.

Authorities believe the fire began inside the car, Bedont said. The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated with help from the State Fire Marshal's Office.
