ALTA — Three skiers were partially buried, but otherwise uninjured, in an avalanche while skiing in-bounds at Alta Monday.

The slide was accidentally triggered by a skier about 11:45 a.m. in the Spot Slot area above High Traverse, said Alta spokeswoman Connie Marshall.

The three were caught up in the slide and partially buried. Each was dug out quickly and did not report any injuries, she said.

Alta Ski Patrol crews assisted with the rescue, and Unified police officers responded to the ski resort to assist them.

Marshall said the Collins Ski Lift was temporarily closed after the avalanche.

There have been at least 11 avalanches reported by the Utah Avalanche Center since Friday in Utah. Until Monday, all of those had been in backcountry and out-of-bounds areas. The slides resulted in at least four people fully or partially buried, according to the Avalanche Center. Two of those victims suffered minor injuries.
