PROVO — Passengers on an Allegiant Airlines Flight from Oakland to Provo were stuck for nearly 12 hours on three separate planes Monday.

Flight 1032 was supposed to leave around 9:30 a.m.

Passengers told KPIX 5 the plane was forced to return due to mechanical issues.

A second plane arrived from Las Vegas around 3:30 p.m., but passengers said the jet started overheating so it returned to the gate.

Then, just before 7 p.m., a third plane arrived from Phoenix, but it got stuck on the tarmac for an hour and needed more fuel.

The flight finally left at 8:48 p.m. and landed in Provo late Monday night.

"I have been imprisoned by Allegiant Airlines for over nine hours and I am outraged. This airline should go out of business immediately," one man on the plane told KPIX.

The airline gave the fed-up passengers each a $100 voucher and issued a statement saying it tried to keep passengers as comfortable as possible.

"We never want to delay or inconvenience our passengers, but the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority," its statement to KPIX said.
