SALT LAKE CITY — Westminster College has suspended its women's volleyball coach, and a spokeswoman told KSL News the school is investigating an incident.

The coach, Kim Norman, is a well-known figure in Utah's volleyball community.

A spokeswoman for Westminster gave few details, because it's a personnel issue, but she did confirm the school suspended Norman indefinitely with pay. She said, like all complaints, the school is taking the matter seriously.

Norman, who was out of town Monday, spoke with KSL News by phone. She said Westminster leaders told her they were looking into allegations of an incident during a game at Dickinson State, in North Dakota, on Oct. 17.

"I was told by the administration that I had used a cuss word and it was reported that my behavior was unacceptable," she said.

Norman also said it's a "false allegation" and she's still waiting to hear from the administration.

Norman made a name for herself in women's volleyball. Her school biography credits her with leading Westminster's team to its most successful season in 2007.

According to the bio, this is her 10th season as the head coach of the women's volleyball team. She's the longest tenured coach in the program's history and holds the school record for victories and winning percentage.

Norman founded the High Country Volleyball Club and and worked with USA Volleyball. She also coached at Highland High School in Salt Lake City.

Norman has hired an attorney, who she says has video of the game in question.

That attorney contacted KSL News, but declined our request for an interview. We will follow this story in the coming days.
