HERRIMAN — A fire in Herriman that forced the closure of the Black Ridge Reservoir was contained within a couple hours of it starting Saturday.

Fire crews from Herriman and Wildland firefighters worked to put out a grass fire that started just before noon approximately one mile south of the Juniper Point area Saturday.

Authorities asked all residents to avoid Black Ridge Park Saturday. They were unsure when the park would reopen.

Herriman spokeswoman Tami Moody said the fire was about two football fields in size.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is not threatening any structures at this time.

"The fire crews have stated that they have not found the cause of the fire," said Herriman spokesperson Tami Moody. "They have stated that that is still under investigation."

"There is very little to no risk to our residents at this time," interim mayor Matt Robinson said.
