OGDEN — Police are investigating whether an altercation that broke out between two women on Pioneer Day is connected to alleged animal cruelty.

An officer broke up the fight at 525 Park Blvd. about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, and when neither party wished to prosecute, returned to other pressing calls that included a shooting and a fatal auto accident, according to a statement from Ogden Police.

Police later learned the fight began because one woman believed the other woman's son had killed a cat, the release states.

Little was known about the alleged animal cruelty. John Harvey, Deputy Director of Support Services, confirmed that no dead cat has been located, but an investigation is underway and police will continue to take statements from the people involved in Wednesday's altercation.
