WEST JORDAN — A water main break on 3200 West diverted traffic and flooded at least one basement Friday afternoon.

The break near the 7500 South intersection closed four blocks of the road between 7400 South and 7800 South just in time for the 5 p.m. rush. Nearby homes were also without water while crews worked to repair the pipe and the road.

The 10-inch pipe is "relatively old," and crews were still working Friday evening to determine why it failed, West Jordan Mayor Melissa Johnson said.

Road repairs are expected to last through the weekend, but 3200 West was expected to open Friday and water returned to affected homes sometime Friday evening, Johnson said.
