VERNAL — A man was arrested Friday after allegedly stealing $500 meant to be donated to the American Cancer Society.
John Stuart Branham, 37, allegedly entered the Walgreens store on U.S. 40 Monday morning and left the store after stealing a large jug of donation money meant for Relay for Life."
Surveillance video from the morning of the crime shows a man walking into the store and looking toward the cash registers before glancing at his watch and leaving, apparently frustrated.
Less than a minute later, the man returned to the store, eventually grabbing the jar while the cashier was away and exiting the store.
Branham was booked on suspicion of business burglary, felony theft, and failure to register as a sex offender. His bail is currently set at $15,000.
Police said restitution will be sought in the theft.
