PROVO — Police are looking for a would-be burglar who failed their attempts to break into a gas station and a store on April 3.

Provo police hope surveillance video will help them catch a person who attempted to burglarize a Sinclair Service Station and Pak Rat's Thrift Store on State Street.

In the surveillance footage, a young man or teen wearing a white t-shirt, black gym shorts and black gym shoes approaches the food mart around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3. He then attempted to break the door's window with an object that appeared to be a stick, Provo police said. After that method fails, he throws a rock at the window, which also didn't break the glass.

The would-be burglar then heads down the street to Pak Rat's Thrift store, where police said he tried to enter through a broken window. The owner of the store reported that someone had attempted to remove duct tape sealing a broken window.

Lisa Kelson, who works at the thrift shop, said this is the fourth attempt by someone to get in the shop through the window.

"Well I think they're an idiot for trying to break in down here, they've tried many times and they haven't succeeded," Kelson said.

Police said the young man, possibly teen, is between 5-feet 5-inches and 5-feet 8-inches tall.

Anyone with information about the young man or attempted burglaries is asked to call the Provo Police Department at 801-852-6210.
