LAPOINT, Uintah County — Fire crews responded to three Uintah County blazes on Saturday, including one burning in the east Randlett area toward the Green River.
Cheryl Nelsen with the Uintah Basin Fire Center said latest call came in at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, with someone reporting that a tree was ablaze. Arriving crews found a brush fire estimated to be 50 acres. Nelson said someone was burning ditches and embers spread to a tree, igniting area brush on fire.
Earlier in the day, two other controlled burns sparked out of control, with one near the Lapoint-Hayden area having reached at least 356 acres. Nelson said the bulk of the fire is contained.
The fire there jumped a road, but did threaten any structures. The other fire had burned at least 9 acres and was burning in the Horseshoe Bend area south of Vernal. It, too, had not threatened any structures.
Emergency officials said the two fires started an hour apart on Saturday afternoon, the first day of the open-burn season, which ends June 1.
