TAYLORSVILLE — At least one building on the south side of the Salt Lake Community College campus was evacuated Thursday after more than a dozen people complained of a nauseating odor.
Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clint Mecham said firefighters were initially called to the scene at the school's Applied Technology Center at the main 4600 S. Redwood Road campus because of a "strange, burnt plastic smell." However, no burning fire or active flames were found inside the building.
About 25 individuals in the vicinity had complained of light-headedness, dizziness and other symptoms, Mecham said. Two people were taken to the hospital because of the complaints.
A hazardous materials crew investigated the odor, but a cause was not released Thursday.
