MIDVALE — A woman is in critical condition after illegally crossing State Street and being struck by a vehicle.
Around 9:23 p.m. Tuesday, the woman and a friend, both 23-years-old, were crossing from the west of State Street to the east near 8000 South. The woman was wearing black clothing and crossing seven lanes of traffic in a poorly lit area outside of a crosswalk when a car hit the woman, police said.
The victim's friend told police she told her not to cross, said Unified police Lt. Steve Shreeve.
The friend fled the scene because, she told police, the two had been drinking and she was afraid.
The woman was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition with chest and pelvis injuries. She is expected to live. The friend was not injured.
Police did not cite the 20-year-old female driver for the crash.
