SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police have made three arrests in a drive-by shooting that left bullet holes in two vehicles, including a police car.

Thursday morning, Salt Lake City police announced they had made three arrests in connection with the case. Peter Ramirez, 20, Beatriz Andrade, 22, and Mark Garcia, 18, were arrested for investigation of illegal discharge of a firearm.

Lt. James Tracy of the Salt Lake City Police Department said the incident occured just after 11 p.m. Wednesday. Police received several calls of gunshots being fired in the area of 1200 West and 800 South.

When officers arrived they found at least seven shots had been fired and several .40-caliber bullets had hit two vehicles in the neighborhood, including an off-duty officer's car.

No homes or people were hit.

Witnesses described the shooter's vehicle as a newer two-door silver Mazda.

Police are crediting numerous accounts of eyewitnesses who stepped forward and gave investigators information. Based on the descriptions given from witnesses, detectives quickly found the suspect vehicle parked on the side of the street near 1000 West and 600 South, said Salt Lake police detective Dennis McGowan. The two men and the woman were taken into custody a short time later without incident.
