DEER VALLEY — More than 80 skiers with lights and torches raced down the mountain Sunday for the annual Torchlight Parade in Deer Valley.
For those just getting back into skiing since last season, doing it not only in formation but also with a lighted torch can seem a little daunting. But some of these skiers have been doing it for over 30 years.
"We have a syncro team that goes down first, then the torchlight parade follows, and we just do a follow of the leader down one of our runs here," said one skier named John.
The parade includes 12 choreographed synchronized skiers as well.
"It's all about learning to ski on other people's cadence, in line and on time," said a skier named Donna. "In line and on time is the hardest part."
This is their 32nd year. The big performance began at dusk on Stick Ski Run on Bald Eagle Mountain.
"It's really cool. I think it's awesome that deer valley does this," said one viewer.
Every year the number of people who come out and watch the event has grown. The first year they only had about ten people, but Sunday, a couple hundred folks made it.
