With just a few months left in the school year, some high schoolers have come to the uncomfortable realization that they are not on pace for graduation. Thanks to the courses offered by Utah Online School, many of those students still have the option of making up the credits and graduating with their friends and classmates.

For each course, students are assigned highly qualified teachers, mentors or staff to support and maintain the school's 90 percent completion rate, according to Laura Belnap, director of Utah Online School.

An innovative educational option

Serving more than 10,000 students annually, Utah Online School is flourishing for a reason. Many students find they can maximize their opportunities by taking online courses for some of their high school requirements.

Students have the option of taking online courses full time. And, with the help of more than 70 full-time teachers and counselors, they have the educational guidance needed for college and career readiness. Nationally accredited and with the flexibility to offer full-time or part-time enrollment, Utah Online School’s 90 percent graduation rate is more than either the Utah or national graduation rates, according to edweek.org.

In the final stretch of this school year, there might also be students in their junior year who discover they only lack a couple credits to earn their diplomas. Students have the option of taking the needed classes at Utah Online School and graduating a year or more early.

Whether the post-graduation goal is college, mission service, or just a job, the option of early graduation offers substantial savings in time and money.

Loaner computers available

Because enrollment in UOS requires stable access to online content, Utah Online High School offers loaner computers to full-time students with demonstrated financial need. Qualifying students may use the computer as long as they maintain full-time enrollment with Utah Online. Once full-time enrollment ends, the device must be returned or purchased.

As part of this program, students are taught proper computer care, receive technical support from UOS, and can buy replacement power cords, batteries and hinges directly from the school.

Part-time or full-time enrollment

UOS offers a variety of enrollment solutions, based on a student’s needs. Full-time students who meet all requirements for graduation can receive their high school diploma from UOS.

Part-time enrollment allows students to dual enroll in Utah Online School while continuing to attend a brick-and-mortar high school. Students may do this to graduate early, reduce their schedule or make up failed courses.

Enrollment for the 2019-20 school year opens March 1. For more information on Utah Online School or to enroll, visit utahonline.org.
