SALT LAKE CITY — Eastbound lanes of I-80 reopened at the mouth of Parley’s Canyon after a crash Thursday night.
The crash took place near the junction of I-80 and I-215 South, according to Utah Department of Transportation. A motorcyclist was riding east on I-80 at about 70 miles per hour when he hit a construction sign, according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Todd Royce.
The biker had some road rash and possibly a broken bone, but did not have any life-threatening injuries, Royce said. The bike was essentially destroyed, he added.
Both lanes were closed after the crash, which UDOT first tweeted about shortly before 9 p.m. Officials shut down the eastbound side of the freeway for about 20 minutes while they treated the rider, Royce said.
By 9:25 p.m. the left lane had reopened, according to UDOT, and traffic was slowly moving by.
Officials estimated the crash site would not be cleared until 10:15 p.m., according to the UDOT website. By 10:25 p.m., both lanes of the road were open again.
