TAYLORSVILLE — A Utah County Sheriff’s Deputy sustained minor injuries after he crashed his motorcycle Saturday morning, officials said.

The crash took place about 9:20 a.m. near I-215 at 1300 West, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Lawrence Hopper. The deputy, who was not identified, had been directing traffic near 4700 South and I-215 for a charity bike ride that took off from the West Valley City/Taylorsville area, Hopper said.

The deputy was helping the other bikers get on to I-215 and then began traveling east on I-215 to try and catch up with the group, Hopper said. At some point, the deputy lost control of his motorcycle and hit the concrete barrier on the left side of the road.

The deputy was thrown off his bike, and had some road rash and a possible broken arm, Hopper said. No other people were involved in the crash. The deputy will be treated at a hospital, Hopper added.

It was not clear why the deputy lost control of his bike, Hopper said.

Officials closed the two far left lanes of the road, but traffic was flowing smoothly as of 10:30 a.m., Hopper said.
