SALT LAKE CITY — We are now full swing into the summer blockbuster movie release schedule. This week we get “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” as the next in the ever-lengthening line of “Jurassic Park” franchise films.

This edition brings back Chris Pratt, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard and a couple other familiar faces in an attempt to save mankind from itself and also dinosaurs, lots and lots of dinosaurs.

As you can guess when you mix dinosaur teeth with man’s arrogance, you get what you've gotten in the previous four films: a lot of action and a few minor things to be aware of as a parent.

Language

There was not a lot in the way of language that would raise too many eyebrows beyond some PG-13 level swear words. The use of language, in terms of being abusive or communicating offensive things without swearing, is nonexistent in this film. I think the bad one-liners the writers wedged into the script were more offensive to my ears than the handful of swear words I heard.

Violence

There is a lot of violence in this film — almost all of it in the form of dinosaur on man and man on dinosaur. When you have two of the world’s most dangerous predators fighting for survival and Mother Nature having a meltdown, things get out of hand.

The movie shows dinosaurs and men being shot with bullets and tranquilizer darts. It also shows dinosaurs eating people and other dinosaurs. There are explosions and several fist fights. In the end, the violence in this film is what we’ve come to expect from the Jurassic films and, frankly, what keeps them entertaining.

Gore

With a lot of violence, you may think there would be a lot of gore and blood but there was relatively little. There are a couple scenes where we see people eaten whole or in part by dinosaurs, though.

One occasion shows a man’s arm being bitten off as well as another man torn in half. All of this comes with a lot of screaming and cries of pain but very little blood. There are some moments when the viewer will see dinosaurs being killed or maimed throughout the film, but again, no blood.

Sexuality

There was almost no sexuality to speak of in this film other than a brief kiss and a possible sexual innuendo, but I can’t be sure. In a comment made by Chris Pratt’s character to Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, he says something that may or may not have been meant to be sexual — I don’t know if it was accidental phrasing or it says more about me. Either way, something is said but nothing is made of it and that’s where I’ll leave it.

Intensity

There are a lot of intense scenes throughout the film that involve that classic “Jurassic Park” feel of man being hunted by dinosaur. These moments create a lot of tension and will have you on the edge of your seats at times. It is fun and gives the movie its signature feel but could be a little difficult for kids if they are sensitive to it. There are several scenes where a young girl is nearly eaten or killed in some way by dinosaurs.

Review: 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' is fine

With the four subsequent films since "Jurassic Park" I keep waiting for the original magic to happen again, but “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” let me know that will never happen with this franchise.

Conclusion

If you go to “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” expecting to see anything different than you have seen in the previous movies, you will be disappointed. This film keeps things consistent with content and what to expect.

If you are taking a child or someone who may have a difficult time seeing the things I’ve mentioned, maybe reconsider seeing this film. This film is rated PG-13, but I would personally not have a problem taking a slightly younger child if I was confident of their level of comfort with this type of movie.
