OGDEN — The FBI has positively identified the remains of a woman nearly 2½ years after Weber County Sheriff’s deputies first found the decomposing body near Ogden Bay.
The woman has been identified as Latoya Wyasket, 34, of Ogden, according to Weber County Sheriff’s officials.
Wyasket experienced homelessness and was often in the area of 18th Street and Childs Avenue in Ogden, according to authorities.
Her body was discovered on Sept. 27, 2017, by a group of people moving cattle in a waterfowl management area west of Hooper.
Deputies responded to the incident and found the remains in “a very advanced stage of decomposition,” according to a statement released Friday.
Investigators initially were unable to discern the gender of the body.
The medical examiner’s office was unable to determine a cause of death but could tell the remains belonged to a female between the age of 28 and 48.
Weber County Sheriff’s detectives looked through missing female reports to try and identify the remains. This method was unsuccessful, according to officials.
The FBI assisted in the investigation and positively identified the remains this month.
Anyone with information on Wyasket, or who saw her in the spring of 2017 near 18th Street and Childs Avenue, is asked to call the Weber County Investigations Bureau at 801-778-6631 and reference case No. 17WC30742.
Wyasket’s cause of death is still under investigation.
