SALT LAKE CITY — An elderly man was hit by a car Wednesday afternoon and later died of his injuries, authorities said.

The man was crossing the street at the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and Highland Drive about 3:45 p.m. in his motorized wheelchair when a car struck him, Salt Lake City Fire Department Capt. Adam Archuleta confirmed.

Details about how the crash happened weren’t immediately available.

Archuleta said he didn’t know the man’s condition immediately after the crash but noted that the man was “conversational” with paramedics on his way to the hospital.

Sometime after being checked into the hospital, the man died, Archuleta confirmed.

Archuleta said he didn’t know the man’s exact age but heard from others he was 94.
