TAYLORSVILLE — A section of 6200 South near Bangerter Highway is set to close Wednesday night as crews work to relocate the Jordan Valley Aqueduct over the next week.

With the upcoming closure, Utah Department of Transportation and Taylorsville city officials are warning motorists to be prepared for a detour route in the area.

The closure itself will only be a small portion of 6200 South from Bangerter Highway to Dixie Drive/Fox Hills Drive from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. on Oct. 23. However, the suggested detour extends from Bangerter Highway to 4000 West, which could cause headaches for motorists who use the road.

As the closure remains in place, a detour will be enacted for the drivers affected. Westbound drivers will be detoured north onto Bangerter Highway to 5400 South, 5400 South to 4000 West, and then 4000 West back to 6200 South.

Eastbound drivers can either take 4000 West to 5400 South to Bangerter Highway, or Center Park Drive to Jordan Landing Boulevard and then east to Bangerter Highway.

A pedestrian bridge in the area will also be closed during the construction period.

The closure will be in place as crews install a 78-inch pipe on the north and south sides of the project corridor. According to UDOT, 70% of the pipe installation is already complete, and the pipe relocation in the area is set to be complete in the coming weeks. The water pipe project precedes the construction of a new interchange at 6200 South and Bangerter Highway, which is scheduled to begin next spring, UDOT officials added.

The city says aqueduct relocation will shave a year off the construction time for the new interchange, which is expected to be completed in 2020.

In a news release, Taylorsville officials stated the project was delayed until Wednesday to align closer with Granite School District’s fall break since there are two schools near the construction area.
