PROVO — An Orem man who allegedly blamed his health problems in part on a 4th District judge now faces charges of threatening to kill that judge.
Scott Laray Allen, 44, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with threatening a judge, a third-degree felony.
On Sept. 12, Allen was undergoing dialysis at a health clinic. “While at the clinic, Allen disclosed that he was upset with a 4th District Court judge due to some of the judge’s previous rulings in matters affecting Allen,” charging documents state.
“Allen blamed the judge for his kidney disease and the stress that caused his high blood pressure. Allen stated that, ‘When I go terminal, there is a list of people who I am going to take with me,’ and Allen mentioned the judge’s name,” according to the charges.
Allen went on to say he would drive to the judge’s house and ‘take out’ the judge,” the charges say.
As the arresting officer was taking Allen to jail, “(Allen) went on and on about his hatred for the judge in question and his desire to ruin the judge’s career,” a police affidavit states.
Because of Allen’s dialysis treatment, the jail refused to admit him, the affidavit states. The officer recommended he be placed on a GPS ankle monitor.
Allen has a lengthy criminal history, including disorderly conduct and numerous convictions and charges for driving-related offenses, state court records indicate. Four people have filed for protective orders against him since 2013, and he has one conviction of violating a protective order, taking a plea in abeyance in 2015.
