SALT LAKE CITY — One of two teens who originally faced murder charges in the shooting death of a woman as she slept in an Ogden home was ordered Thursday to at least five years and up to life in prison.

Tre’von Jordan Zamora, 18, admitted last month he was a lookout for two others who fired shots into an Ogden home and killed 47-year-old Maria Sanchez, court records show. He pleaded guilty to a reduced count of felony discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony.

Zamora and Daniel Garcia, both of Ogden, were 16 years old when Sanchez was shot and killed inside an Ogden home roughly two years ago. They were criminally charged as adults.

Garcia pleaded guilty in July to attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, court records show. He admitted that he and a friend came up with a plan to shoot into a home in order to harm someone inside. Garcia’s trial had been set to begin earlier this month.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to recommend a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison.

As part of the plea bargain and in exchange for their guilty pleas, other charges Zamora and Garcia faced were dismissed, including possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony. Court documents don’t indicate why they decided to target the home at 314 28th St. on Aug 13, 2017. At least seven rounds were fired into the house, according to charging documents.

Police arrested and questioned a third juvenile who was also with Garcia and Zamora. He told detectives Zamora and Garcia shot at the home but would not say why, charges state. Authorities have not disclosed whether a third person has been criminally charged in Sanchez’s death.

Under state law, those under 18 but at least 16 years old who are accused of murder can be charged as adults.

Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 4.
