SOUTH SALT LAKE — Two multi-vehicle crashes on northbound I-15 shut down several lanes for over two hours Saturday afternoon, officials report.

The initial crash occurred near 2700 South about 3:45 p.m. and involved a FedEx truck and "potentially another four or five vehicles," according to Utah Highway Patrol trooper Dave Hull.

A second crash then occurred, involving four cars, as a result of drivers "not slowing down and paying attention" to the first crash, Hull said.

Minor injuries were reported from the first crash and those involved in the second crash were moved out of traffic, he added.

As of 6:15 p.m., all lanes of traffic were reopen, UHP officials said. In a tweet, they urged drivers to "increase following distance, reduce speed and remain alert and focused."

Details about how the initial crash occurred were not immediately available.
