SALT LAKE CITY — One of Utah's senators fared a little better than the other in a quarterly survey of how they're doing their jobs.
Utah voters gave freshman GOP Sen. Mitt Romney a 50 percent approval rating, according to Morning Consult, a global survey research company and news outlet. The poll showed 29 percent gave him an unfavorable rating, while 21 didn't know or didn't have an opinion.
Republican Sen. Mike Lee received a 45 percent approval rating, while 27 percent rated him unfavorably and 28 percent didn't know or didn't have opinion.
Romney's rating ranked him 20th among all senators, while Lee ranked 52nd.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., a presidential candidate, had the highest approval rating at 62 percent. Sens. Gary Peters, D-Mich., and Bob Menendez, D-N.J., have the lowest with 33 percent.
Morning Consult conducted 472,802 surveys with registered U.S. voters from Jan. 1 through March 31, 2019, to determine its first quarter Senate rankings. In each poll, voters indicated whether they approve or disapprove of the job performance of their senators. The results are updated each quarter.
On a daily basis, Morning Consult surveys over 5,000 registered voters across the country. Along with approval ratings for senators, it tracks the 2020 election as well as the approval ratings for governors, U.S. House members and the president, and others at the national, state and congressional district level.
